Matthew

So today is the first day for the book of Matthew! So if we start today, we will read the last chapter on August 28th. I don't know about you guys, but this month is going to be a little hectic. We can do it! Don't stray from the path God has for you! If you have any comments, questions, or any info about Matthew, camp, or what God is doing in your life, go ahead and post it. This is what I found about Matthew-

In sum, Matthew first proves that Jesus was the Messiah. Second, he shows that Jesus did not fail to establish the kingdom (the failure was the nation’s—and the kingdom was inaugurated, though not consummated in the coming of the Messiah). Finally, he wishes to show that because the nation failed to respond, the gospel was now open to Gentiles. But even in this final point Matthew walks a tightrope between giving his audience a rationale for the Gentile mission and making sure that they do not offend their Jewish neighbors by abandoning the Law. In this respect, 5:17-20 and 28:16-20 stand out as the theological cornerstones of this book, and they stand in some tension. (http://www.bible.org/page.asp?page_id=969, bible.org)

Hebrews 4:11-16

11Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no onewill fall,
through following the same example of disobedience.12For the word of God is
living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, andpiercing as far as
the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the
thoughts and intentions of the heart.13And there is no creature hidden from His
sight, but all things are open and laid bare to theeyes of Him with whom we have
to do.14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.15For we do not
have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has
been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.16Therefore let us draw
near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and
find grace to help in time of need.
We find rest in this life through the Word of God. In this rest, we find a closer relationship with God and will become wiser in the ways of this earth and understand more about what God has in store for us in the time to come.
